Kristen Cain

Kristen Cain joined Maine Law’s Refugee and Human Rights Clinic (RHRC) as the Sally L. Stevens Immigration Law Fellow and Staff Attorney in August 2026. Kristen represents RHRC clients in their immigration cases and handles some of the RHRC’s project and impact work.

Kristen earned her B.A. from Fordham University and her J.D. from Boston University School of Law. Prior to law school, she volunteered with several refugee agencies and served as an AmeriCorps service member with The Right to Immigration Institute, assisting noncitizens with applications for asylum and other humanitarian-based forms of relief.

As a law student, Kristen was deeply involved with BU’s clinical programs, where she served as a student attorney and research assistant. Her work with the International Human Rights Clinic focused on human rights abuses at the U.S.-Mexico border, while her work with the Immigrants’ Rights Clinic centered on advocating for clients’ release from immigration detention and relief from removal. Throughout law school, Kristen organized volunteer opportunities and conducted trainings to encourage student involvement in community-based advocacy efforts. Before joining the clinical faculty and staff at Maine Law, Kristen served as a legal intern with Harvard’s Immigration and Refugee Clinical Program, Northwest Immigrant Rights Project, and the Political Asylum/Immigration Representation Project, directly representing individuals and engaging in broader advocacy in support of immigrants’ rights.
